Welfare camps being closed

With the flood waters receding and the ground situation improving flood victims housed in welfare centers are returning to their homes, government officials in the Eastern Province said

We hope to close all welfare camps by tonight, Child Development and Women Affairs Deputy Minister M.L.A.M. Hisbullah said. He added that most of the 175 welfare centers in Batticaloa District were closed.

Meanwhile all camps in Ampara district are scheduled to be closed tomorrow with the flood situation improving, however the distribution of relief items will go on and preventive measures against contagious diseases will be continuously taken, Ampara District Government Agent (G.A)Sunil Kannangara said.
