it;s a sad incident.
1)our politicians never said to eradicate the poverty of masses, they eradicae their own family from poverty.
2)Authorities are MR's babies no action could be taken. If,patrents complain they'l face death threat.

A sudden and sad ending of two youthful lives! As Sri Lanka progress we shpould apply higher standards of safety to care for our dear citizens. Review public safety relating to roads, buildings and transport urgently. We have lost too many young lives already!

Parents should sue the authorities. Unfortunately in Sri Lanka we consider this as just accident and doesn't sue responsible authorities, it makes them to be ignorant.

1) I can remember this foot bridge, as I have used this as a child. Till now, never knew it was not meant for the public. Is there a notice to that effect at the bridge
2) Even if it is meant for the maintenance staff, authorities cannot use it as an excuse because it shouldn't have been in this state, if it was meant for the maintenance people.

Though, its' reported as a collapsed of Foot Bridge it isn't a Foot Bridge. Its' only a Foot Path, but not meant for Public to walk across. This is provided for the Track Maintenance staff.
However, this is very pathetic incident due to negligence of the person/s who are supposed to maintain these Bridges up to date.

It so sad. The other day I read of a 18 year old girl killed by a collapsing home wall built with wattle. While we build super highways for the able, people still live in poverty. All politicians promised to eradicate poverty, but poor are worst off than ever before

No proper surveillance of public facilities by the elected members and officials. We get similar type of news on a regular basis. Poor masses pay the price in the end.
deshapremiya Thursday, 26 April 2012 07:26 PM
What a tragedy!!! :(:( two 18-year lost their lives just like that.

Rest in piece children..... we will live with a guilty mind that our citizens are still walking on such dilapidated bridges and risking their lives on a daily basis though we are blessed with people and resources to make this country much more safer and affluent.
