A tense situation prevails in Kahawatta as angry mobs have set  fire to two houses after they heard a suspect was arrested by the CID in connection with the double murder in Kahawatta earlier this year.

The two houses belongs to UPFA Godakawela Pradeshiya Sabha member L.H.Dharamasiri and his brother who is believed to have been taken into custody by the CID last night.

The victims of the murder, a mother and daughter, were identified as Kavindya Chathuranganie (19) and Nayana Nilmini (52). Several police teams under the direction of the senior DIG in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province have been deployed into the area.

The murders took place in the Kotakethana area in Kahawatta between January 31 and February 2 (By Supun Dias) (Pix by Lasantha Niroshan  and Ajithlal Shanthaudaya)

Yeah- "patriotism" hijacked by UPFA- even though they are the worst scoundrels!

    singingfisher Saturday, 10 March 2012 02:19 AM

    The killers must be hanged

    harbi Thursday, 08 March 2012 08:11 AM

If these are the real culprits then not only their house they also need to be burned alive!

    Surain Thursday, 08 March 2012 05:18 AM

next is court no justice in Sri Lanka people have no faith

    Ranjith Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:50 AM

That is why the regime always asks the opposition to go to courts to get justice done, knowing it is not valid in SL anymore. So if you want justice go to west and let them put pressure.

    Aroshi Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:32 AM

Hey, joke of the centrury, if you people expect this government to put law and order in place. If your head is not working the whole body is dead. Our country is also the same

    prasanna Thursday, 08 March 2012 04:43 AM

well done. Public should punish the culprits as long as the police and the law enforcement authorities are silent.

    well done.

    K.R.A.Ranasinghe Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:38 AM

NOW PEOPLE HAVE LOST FAITH IN CLERGY,JUDICIAL SYSTEM AND JUDGES, ARMED FORCES AND POLICE AS THEY KNOW ALL THESE INSTITUTIONS ARE OPERATING UNDER PLOTICAL INFLUENCE. WE WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE MANY MORE INCIDENTS OF THIS NATURE IN TIME TO COME UNLESS PEOPLES FAITH IS NOT DULT RESTORED.

    das Thursday, 08 March 2012 03:20 AM

and we expect the international community and Geneva etc to believe that there are no human rights violations in SL???

    Bavanajohn Wednesday, 07 March 2012 06:33 PM

We can not expect good service from SL Police! also no hope for Justice.

    jack Wednesday, 07 March 2012 06:24 PM

they will release them as soon as possible. Just like duminda silva. All the sri lankan knows him

    michael Wednesday, 07 March 2012 04:51 PM

When law is not enforced these things happen. The day law is strictly enforced crimes will reduce drastically.

    Renu Wednesday, 07 March 2012 04:44 PM

Karmic forces act , badly earned money must go up in flames, good lesson for the other politicians too

    upul Wednesday, 07 March 2012 11:58 AM

Great Sri Lankan Police apprehending the suspects !!!!!

Channa Dewasundara Wednesday, 07 March 2012 03:51 PM

This is a manifestation of the people's anger against Police inaction, Police partiality and impunity culture among the governing politicians.
May this be a wake up call for Justice.

    Chathura Wednesday, 07 March 2012 01:58 PM

The murder is disgusting, typical that the police waited so long. I bet they will be released soon and all charges dropped. Should have been burnt with their houses. Vermin these people are.

    Semasinghe Wednesday, 07 March 2012 01:57 PM

Dear , don't blame on police. It is unfair. what is the utmost,Police have done it. Police have arrested suspects.. Public reaction towards suspects another case
We must commend successful Police investigations

    A K Appuhami Wednesday, 07 March 2012 01:48 PM

Cannot accept what the mob has done and can't accept what police have so far to bring the culprit to justice. Non of these actions are not the right path to development.

This government SHOULD put their best effort to restore law and order BEFORE they build anymore roads and bridges.

Calistus Jayatilleke Wednesday, 07 March 2012 01:31 PM

Of course, when it comes to suspects who are UPFA members, i.e. "patriots", the Police have to wait for orders from the higher-ups before even attempting to charge them or arrest them.

    lk Wednesday, 07 March 2012 12:53 PM

this anger is very reasonable. the culprits should be hung in Galle face.

Motta Silva Wednesday, 07 March 2012 12:52 PM

No smoke without a fire ...

    Patriotic138 Wednesday, 07 March 2012 12:26 PM

"police knew" we need evidence not feelings.

Kolomba Kaka Wednesday, 07 March 2012 12:26 PM

The people are reasonably angry as most of such murders have not been solved by the Police up to now.

    ranjith Wednesday, 07 March 2012 12:09 PM

You r living overseas. It has taken 2 months to arrest just a "pradeshiyasaba" mp. Police knew who is the murderer so as all the people in this area. Mob could have set fire when these murederers also inside instead

    dPora Wednesday, 07 March 2012 11:58 AM

police were under pressure to arrest someone, what if they are innocent, shameful behavior of uneducated mob.

    rajindra Wednesday, 07 March 2012 12:06 PM

Somalia in making. This is why west treat us as barbarians.

    Nodrog Wednesday, 07 March 2012 11:48 AM

Mob justice will prevail because the public have no faith in the Police to act impartially.
