The Galle heritage foundation with the approval of the Galle Municipal Council has launched a program to issue special identity cards to three wheel drivers who travel within the Galle fort area.
When the foundation called for applicants, 65 three wheel drivers had applied for the identity card. Accordingly, 43 identity cards will be issued during the first phase of the program on July 27.
Three wheeler drivers who do not posses these identity cards will not be allowed to transport tourists within the Galle fort.
These drivers will also be given lessons in the English language, how to communicate with tourists and a history about the Galle fort. (Daily Mirror online)
