Congress president Sonia Gandhi has told DMK chief M. Karunanidhi that a suitable outcome would be reached on the Sri Lankan issue soon, according to her letter released Monday.

Acknowledging the DMK's chief March 9 letter, Gandhi in her letter dated March 15, copies of which were released to the media by the DMK here, said: "I have been informed that the government is fully aware of the important issues involved and is engaged with all parties to find a just solution."

"I believe the prime minister is writing to you in this regard. I hope that a suitable outcome is reached soon," she said.

Amid increasing pressure from coalition ally DMK, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday assured parliament that India was "inclined" to vote in favour of a UN resolution over Sri Lanka's "war crimes" and hoped it will ensure the Tamil community in Sri Lanka "equality, justice and self-respect".

Karunanidhi was quick to welcome the prime minister's assurance, describing it as "a victory for the Sri Lankan struggle". (IANS)

Sonia, your husband tried to force srilanka his way with IPKF and 13th Amendment, but bitterly failed. In fact Rajiv paid his life to force anything to srilanka and LTTE.
Nothing will work if any country be it with Inida, US, EU or UN force srilanka to behave.
Only viable outcome must be come within srilanka and it takes time. It can take few years, since singhalease majority must by satisfied with final outcome. Nobody force me to change my constitution, my government or my society.
If at all it will be I who changed it.
Any outside force will have negative impact on outcome.

India is struggling with minority government, exactly the same way as Mr. Thondaman did in 1980'/90s. Eventhough, the Indian PM supports US resolution, its not by heart, and temporarty solution for Mr. Karunanidhi. India SL freidnship will be there forever!

Sri lanka failed to resolve its enthic issues and so it must surely need help from the international community to sort the matter out to the satisfaction of all the races. One step forward is the change of the present goverment which is already underway and then change of constitution which will happen after that.
