The government hopes to resettle all the remaining Internally Displaced People (IDP) who are in IDP camps at Vavuniya within a period of six months, Newly appointed Minister of Resettlement Milroy Fernando said.

The Minister made these comments to the media after visiting IDP camps in Vavuniya and meeting the displaced people.

Nearly 70,000 IDPs from the North still remain in welfare camps in Vavuniya while over 200,000 others have already been resettled.

India had this week called for the resettlement of the remaining IDPs while the UN had praised the government for its efforts to resettle over 200,000 displaced people affected by the war in the North. (Daily Mirror online)

MK, which country are you living in? Just visit Vanni and the IDP camps and see how people are living. 'Resettling' doesn't mean, taking them by bus and dropping them at any place. All their belongings were destroyed by war, and now, ought to be given back to them!

Well. Most of the displaced are already resettled. Its only a few that remain. This is the reason John Holms commended the governments resettlement plan's progress, last November.

There have been many jokes in 2010, but this is the best one. Always the first talk is like this, but as time passes, it will change. Stop "bla bla" and get into action, if you are a genuine gentleman.

A politician needs the ability to foretell what is going to happen tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. And to have the ability afterwards to explain why it didn't happen.

Does resettlement mean exporting Sinhalese from the south, for resettlement in the north - thus depriving the Tamil-speaking population in the north from job opportunities and economic benefits?

A lot of late-2009's resettlement occurred as the Presidential election campaign was hotting-up and SF appeared to be posing a decent challenge.
