Slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in an interview given to an Indian newspaper had warned about United States attempt to perpetuate and escalate the war in order to establish a base in Trincomalee, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said today.

Addressing a meeting in Piliyandala the JHU General Secretary read out the extracts from Prabhakaran’s interview to Cochin based weekly, ‘Week’ published on March 23, 1986.

“The US objective is to perpetuate and escalate the ethnic crisis so that she can gradually set foot on the island and establish a base in Trincomalee…..The US administration has strategic and geopolitical interests in the region. Sri Lanka with its natural harbor in Trincomalee is most strategically located… the objective of the US imperialists is to gradually penetrate the country and eventually bring the island under its sphere of influence and domination” Prabhakaran had reportedly said the Indian newspaper.

Minister Ranawaka said the recent deployment of US marines in Darwin, Australia is very much part of the US expansion policy in Asia – Pacific region which it had been continuing for decades and the numbers of marines will only go to increase in the months to come.

“They will definitely stay beyond the given deadline of 2014” Minister Ranawaka added.

Anyone who knows history knows that Prabha said this in 1986 because then India was anti-america and sri lanka under JR was towing pro america agenda. Prabha said this to score points with Indian leaders

Victor, we need to understand each other better. More interpreters are needed for official matters - both Sinhala and Tamil. But saying Tamils don't have rights in Sri Lanka is nonsense. Though Sinhalese my father and my grandparents spoke and wrote in Tamil, Sinhala and English. We need more people like that.

I'm a Tamil Lal. The ppl who came to take the cnesus count, were extremely nice and kind. But they couldn't utter a word in Tamil also the census form is completely in Sinhala. We really had a time to help them to fill up the form and it took more than 2 hours. The language appreciation is one of the simple things the Tamil general pulic need urgently. Some Sinhala people never understand this and they always think that all tamils should know sinhala if they want to live in this country. Just think how many of sinhala people encourage their children to speak in tamil wth the tamil children?

Well said Lal. I have no idea what some of these Tamils are talking about!! Muslims, Burghers and Malays never complain. No wonder they live a happy life. Tamils just keep complaining and winging without just getting on with their lives. They themselves are putting their own people down by publishing these things.

Are you the Minister of Defense or the Minister of Power and Energy? Concentrate on the subject you are responsible for and provide electricity to the public at a reasonable price. This is the problem with Sri Lankan Ministers who talk about everything other than what they are specifically responsible for and try to sell Prabhakaran, U.S.A, War and the Tamil diaspora etc, to cover up their inefficiency.
