Police today said the government had been able to save at least Rs. 700 million of pension funds from being drawn through fraudulent means, due to raids conducted by the CID during the past three months.

Police media spokesperson Ajith Rohana said the CID had conducted raids in several parts of the country including Kegalle, Gampola upper division, Nachchaduwa, Galnewa and Polgahawela where various incidents of major frauds had taken place relating to pensions.

Eight suspects including a former secretary of the Southern Provincial Council were arrested over the fraud incidents and the total sum defrauded by them was estimated to be around Rs. 25 million, SSP Rohana said. (Chaturanga Pradeep and Sanath Desmond)

This is the vague statement of the Police Spokesman to show govt & police are doing things. All very vague story - no real facts except the reference to one incident of 25m while they talk of 700m. Also it will be dropped if a top politico is involved - usual Police style.
