UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya, in response to a request by his colleague Sajith Premadasa to accept the party leadership, said today that he (Mr. Jayasuriya) was willing to accept any challenge to take the party forward if it was the fervent wish of a majority of people.

Issuing a statement, he said that a group of senior UNP members and parliamentarians met with him last morning to emphasise the need for a change in the party.

He said, “They informed me that at a time when Sri Lanka is facing grave challenges both locally and internationally, where corruption is dominating all branches of government, it is of critical importance that the main opposition emerges strong and free of division and intra-party conflict.

A leader can make or break it. we need a leader with a clear vision and good political personalty. may be Karu can fulfill. things will start turn around when the vision is changed. we as UNP supporters can adress mirco level issues when macro level issue which is leadership matter is sorted out.God bless UNP

The problem with the UNP is not just the leadership but the Philosophy of the party. The party has no Principles to unite itself, no Leader to look-up to, no Policies for the future of the Nation & finally it has no idea of what ordinary people think. Such Party with any Leader will stay in the wilderness for a long time to come.
