Four members’ of an extortion gang which was forcefully taking money from private buses passing through Dambulla was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department.
The CID which acted on a tip off was able to apprehend three suspects and the ring leader of the gang who was a resident of Dambulla.
The main suspects had nine others working in three teams to extort money from private buses in the area. The members are believed to have collected Rs. 3200 per hour from buses passing through Dambulla.
The suspects are scheduled to be presented in court. The Criminal Investigation Department is conducting further investigations. (Daily Mirror online)
