Heartiest congrats to our new PM. I favour this decision as most of the sri lankans were thinking that basil will be the next PM. Hats off for MR for this wise decision. I dont know what will Dutugemunu be?

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 02:41 PM

Like in the case of Mrs B

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 03:04 PM

Congratulation for new prime minister, and best wishes for his service to the nations

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 03:20 PM

Has this upset Mr Wickramanayake? Hope not since he only read a statement to extend the emergency during his tenure but that is not really needed now.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 03:24 PM

    Definitely better than Ratnasiri.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 03:25 PM

    Disgusting remark by "charuka"

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 03:47 PM

Congradulations for nothing since now your role is to be a
    'YES' man.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 04:19 PM

Charuka, it's disgusting. We, the readers are owed an apology from you

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 04:20 PM

The PM's job is not an easy one my dear, it is not a showcasse title! We have to be very rational when making decisions, I believe thats what Chruka meant, no harm done.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 05:49 PM

This is a good example. One must be loyal to one's party through thick and thin, in good times and bad . Then you will be justly rewarded. Good decision MR. I am sure senior SLFP'ers are also in full agreement. There are pessimists in any society like some of those narrow minded people who have commented above with a dirty mind. I feel sorry for them.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 06:33 PM

    Is Gampola a village?

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 09:56 PM

This President knows how to treat people. Rathnasiri had his opportunity, and did somewhat of a good job. Now it is DM's turn. Even though it is a ceremonial position, it is well respected.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 11:37 PM

What some of you people don't know is that this man (DM) has done so much for the party, for such a long time. I don't think anyone else has done anything close to what he has done for the party, given the circumstances. Not long ago, Kandy was a UNP bastion but he held it together, in that district, for the SLFP (under enormous pressure and threats). It's a pity that real heroes like him are being subject to humiliation, by you lot, when uneducated thugs get so many votes. Sad to say, but we Sri Lankans are really off our minds.

    Wednesday, 21 April 2010 02:36 PM

What is not factored into in making the decision to appoint DM as PM is that PM in Sri Lanka is President-in-waiting. What if something happens to President? The nation will be saddle with DM as President? And the interesting question is, as the President has not yet sworn in for 2nd term can the PM continue beyond 11th November?

May be an expert in constitution could enlighten us?

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 03:18 AM

mr jayratne has done a lot at his home town of gampola. sir we love you, we will be there for you. your hard work paid off.thankyou. mohammed

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 03:24 AM

Good choice as far as MR is concerned. He can rest in peace knowing that DMJ will not try to oust him.

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 03:26 AM

PM's post - minister without portfolio. Anyway he a transit passenger before he will be forcibly retired in November. At least he is one of the derserving ones as he is a senior member

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 03:27 AM

D ( DENDA) M ( MATA). He asked for it and got it. Jesus Chirist said if you ask anyhing i faith you receive it.

God Bless You Hon PM. Sorry i have to only say what Jesus Preached and link with your Initials,

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 04:57 AM

He has served the Party no doubt, but what can he do for a Sri Lanka which is planning to be the new financial hub of Asia? I am not a favourite of the family, but I feel Basil would have been a better choice looking at betterment of the country

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 05:25 AM

Mythripala Sirisena is a very prudent and hardworking politician. And it is fitting that eventually he be elected to a good post. But the president in all his wisdom has taken the right decision in honoring the most senior member of the party. This shows his respect for seniority and wisdom.

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 05:26 AM

Finance is usually never given to other ministers. That has been the norm. And its a good norm. So its better to leave it in the hands of the president.

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 05:27 AM

I guess the guy who lives there knows better ya? so leave it up to him.

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 05:49 AM

While wishing him well, I hope the old suit fits him well without much alterations! At last, he got a chance to wear it!!

    Thursday, 22 April 2010 06:50 AM
