The body of a man allegedly abducted by an unidentified group on Tuesday night was found in Grandpass this morning. Police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said the body was found at around 6.30am on Ferguson Road in Grandpass.

The victim was identified as Dinesh Buddhika (26). According to reports the victim is believed to have been an accomplice of an alleged major drug dealer known as ‘Shankar’. Police were informed about the abduction by his mother who later identified the body when she was escorted by police to the location where the body was found.

Grandpass Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. It is believed that a long-standing personal dispute may have led to his death.

Last week a fish vendor was found dead in Grandpass after he was abducted by an unknown group in Mutuwal the previous day.

A similar incident was reported in December in Orugodawatta when a prominent fish vendor was abducted by men in camouflage uniforms. But he returned home the next after he was assaulted and robbed by the suspects. (Supun Dias)
