The Meteorology Department said today strong winds exceeding 60 kmph was expected in the Southern sea areas while fairly strong winds up to 50-60kmph could be expected over the island.
Issuing a severe weather advisory valid for next 48 hours starting from 1.00 p.m. today, the Department said the deep and shallow sea area off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota could be very rough at times as the wind speed could increase up to 60-70 kmph.
Naval and fishing communities were requested to be vigilant in this regard.
