The opposition today urged the government to launch an investigation into the revelation made by the Deputy Minister, Buddika Pathirana that some companies were selling animal oil mixed milk powder in the market.
Industries, Trade and Commerce Deputy Minister Pathirana revealed in Parliament on Tuesday that some milk powder importing companies import a mixture of lactose powder and animal oil and sell them in the local market in the guise of selling milk powder.
Addressing a news briefing, MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane said a company which is related to a Minister was behind this racket.
“Special attention should be paid to this incident and to ban all these substances which are unsuitable for human consumption. These products should be removed from the market immediately,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
