Bollywood star Sridevi dies at 54

Bollywood superstar Sridevi Kapoor, considered by many to be one of the biggest names in Hindi cinema, has died after suffering a heart attack in Dubai, her family told PTI Sunday.

The shock death of the beloved Indian star in her mid-fifties, who reportedly passed away while attending her nephew's wedding in the emirate late Saturday night, prompted an outpouring of grief among fans and fellow Bollywood actors.
"I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved Sridevi. A dark day. RIP", tweeted actress Priyanka Chopra.

Born Shree Amma Yanger Ayappan, Sridevi made her acting debut aged just 4, and went on to have a career spanning over four decades.

She appeared in a string of blockbuster hit films including Chandni, Mr India, Mawali and Tohfa.

She was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, for her services to the film industry. – AFP

She is a beautiful and talented Tamil actress from South India born to a Tamil father and an Andra Pradesh mother.The sad part is whenever a Tamil or any South Indian beauty becomes known then immediately they are induced by the North Indian Hindi Film industry and taken away to Bombay and most of them end up marrying North Indians. Big loss to South India but those idiots don’t realise it.

She is one of whole lot of Tamil actresses who captured the Hindi market. Vyjanthimala, Hemamalini, Rekha, Meenakshi Seshardri, Trisha, Vidya Balan( ethnic Tamil Brahmin from Kerala) and Waheeda Rehman ( very few people knew that she was a Tamil Muslim) to name a few

When Sridevi started acting in Tamil Nadu,she possessed in abundance the unique quality of the Hindu South Indian Actresses; attractive innocence and romantic shyness.This quality is alien to North Indian actresses,so she provided Bollywood with this talent none of them ever had.

None of the major news papers reporting of her death has ever mentioned that she is a Tamil and further more she is being portrayed as a Bollywood actress only. So sad her identity is lost to the Hindi Bollywood.

Yes she is a Tamil and became a famous Tamil actress and entered the HIndi cinema when two of her Tamil movie hits Pathinaru Vayathinale and Moonraam Pirai were dubbed in HIndi and became instant hits.

Siva,the point is she like so many Tamil actresses not only abandoned Tamil movies but lost her Tamil identity and essentially became a Hindi North Indian,Mrs Kapoor. South India is loosing all its pretty actresses.

Such a talented actress, started her action at the age of 4 in Tamil film "Kanthan Karunai" and her last Tamil film was "Puli", 50 years in the film industry. I know many of my Sinhalese friends adored her after watching Hindi and Tamil films in the 80s and 90s.RIP!

I love her role in "English Vinglish" an Indian comedy-drama film, The narrative revolves around a homemaker who enrolls in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process.The protagonist, played by Sridevi shows how talented she is to what ethnicity she belongs...May she Rest in Peace...
