Parliament, May 10 (Daily Mirror)- Innocent people including school children are arrested under the  Yukthiya Operation for minor offences in some police stations and they are unreasonably charged under Act 54 of the Criminal Procedure, several government MPs charged today.

SLPP MP Samanpriya Herath told Parliament that people have faced serious issues in the Kurunegala district as youth who are languishing in junctions and roads are also taken to police stations and charged under Act 54 of the Criminal Procedure.

He said eleven youths were arrested over a brawl in Narammala yesterday and five of them including a school boy had been charged under Act 54.

"The Acting OIC of the Narammala Police is acting very unreasonably. Action should be taken against him. When these youths are charged under Act 54, they come back to society as drug addicts. The Yukthiya operation is good. But, some police officers misuse it," the MP said.

He urged the Public Security Minister to look into this matter and take action.

SLPP MP Premanath C. Dolawatte said similar incidents were reported in most districts and said it is wrong to take the law into their own hands while  claiming to implement the law.

He said the Yukthiya Operation has come under heavy criticism due to the  actions of some officials.

Sri Lanka is supposed to be a Dimocratic and civilised country. The SL Police must therefore act strictly according to the law of the country and not listen to any politician or official and bend the law. We must know that all foreign civilised democracies are watching our country situation.

When the ministry is handled by a visa scammer and a dual citizenship holder these kinds of things are highly possible. As minister is corrupt he will try to harass the innocent. It is high time for rw to sack visa scammer. He is another keheliya but worse than that nothing else.

As long as Sr Lanka has a highly corrupted minister and IGP their will be no civilized country. Yukthiya is just a drama. Every corner of the country is politicalized. Very sad.

Many MPs and Ministers are living supplying Narcotics to YOUTH who in return assist those MPs being seated in power, therefore, such MPs and Ministers are criticizing the Yukthiya Mehayuma team taking stringent measures on DRUGISTS.

Establish a police complaint authority consists of retired judges on complain from public to the PCA given the power to them will investigate prosecute if there is sufficient evidence. This PCA must be completely independent no individual should be from police department. Follow the footsteps of west to make a civilised country, no one above the Law.

Majority of police personnel are not even GCE O Level qualified and they are from uneducated lowest grade families. They act during checking and raid in such a way that they expect bribery to fill their pocket.

Not only do some sadistic police officers misuse Yukthiya operation, but primarily this operation is misused by a fraudulent money launderer and his convicted torturer friend. These two felons want, firstly, to strengthen their position, which has become shaky, and secondly, out of pure greed for money, they are helping certain drug barons, who are backed by politicians, to form a monopoly cartel by eliminating competitors so that profits on the drug market can be increased. Also, according to one crook's order, the competitors may be shot without trial, as this is not a sin.
