Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - Former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Sallay, who launched a hunger strike while in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) over the Easter Sunday terror attack investigations, has decided to end his fast on the advice of his legal counsel.
Sallay remains under medical treatment at the National Hospital, Colombo, where he was admitted after beginning the hunger strike. He is currently receiving treatment in the hospital's cardiac unit.
The CID arrested him on February 25 in connection with the ongoing investigations into the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks. Following his arrest, he was detained under a 72-hour detention order and questioned by investigators.
Sallay began the hunger strike demanding that the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department be removed from overseeing the investigations involving him and that he be transferred to a different place of detention.
His health reportedly deteriorated during the protest, and on June 27 he suffered a heart-related medical emergency.
Following legal advice, Sallay has now decided to end the hunger strike while continuing to receive treatment at the National Hospital, Colombo.
