BIA set for Rs. 15bn terminal upgrade



Colombo, July 1 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka's aviation sector is set to undergo significant infrastructure development, with plans underway to modernize the first passenger terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport with an investment of approximately Rs. 15 billion over the next two years, Ports and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku said.

Addressing the passing out parade of 100 newly recruited Aviation Security officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport on July 1, the Deputy Minister said several historic development initiatives are currently being implemented across the country's aviation sector.

He revealed that the modernization of the airport's first passenger terminal is scheduled to commence as part of broader efforts to enhance Sri Lanka's aviation infrastructure and improve passenger services.

The Deputy Minister further said that construction work on the second passenger terminal is expected to resume by the end of this year, underscoring the government's commitment to expanding airport capacity and strengthening the country's position as a regional aviation hub.

He said that Bandaranaike International Airport would remain a centre of extensive development activity in the coming years as these major infrastructure projects progress.

The planned investments form part of wider efforts to modernize Sri Lanka's aviation sector and support the country's long-term economic and tourism development objectives.
