Sri Lankan Olympic sprinter Yupun Abeykoon made a record-breaking start to his 2022 season, setting a new Asian record in the Men’s 150m event at the Perseo Trophy 2022 Championships in Italy.
Abeykoon, who is coached by former Italian Olympic 400m sprinter Claudio Licciardello, bettered the previous record held by Japan’s Yoshihide Kiryu by over two-tenths of a second, finishing with a time of 15.16secs in his first competitive race for the year.
Kiryu’s record was 15.35secs, set in 2017.
