Wasantha Kumara appointed as Technical Officer of World Boxing

Withanage Wasantha Kumara, a well-known figure in the Sri Lanka boxing fraternity has been appointed as the Technical Officer of the World Boxing Organization,

Wasantha was bestowed with the appointment having successfully qualified in the examination held recently.

Wasantha began his boxing career as the coach of Sivali MMV Ratnapura and was first appointed as the junior national coach of Sri Lanka and elevated as the Sri Lanka national coach of both the women’s and men’s boxing teams.

Wasantha apart from being involved as a coach went a step further after he completed his International Olympic Committee’s Advanced Sports Management Course.

He contributed his valuable expertise as an administrative officer and went on to serve as the Chairman of the Referee and Judges Commission and president of the Sri Lanka Boxing Coaches Association.

Prior to his appointment as a world qualified Technical Officer of WBO he has functioned as an AIBA Technical Officer.

Wasantha speaking to the Daily Mirror said with his extensive experience both as professional coach and administrator in the field of boxing he will leave no stone unturned for the development of boxing in Sri Lanka at local and international level.
