Top boxers dominate at Inaugural LFL

The inaugural boxing meet of the Lanka Fight League (LFL) in collaboration with Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) conducted at the Royal MAS Arena boxing ring yesterday ended successfully with the top boxers dominating proceedings.  
The boxing meet saw 16 of the best boxers in the island comprising ten in the men and six in the women’s categories in action and flexing their muscles to showcase their talent.  
Eight bouts were worked off with five bouts for men and three bouts for women that included the present national champions and some who have been successful at international boxing meets.  
The LFL joining hands with BASL conducted this meet with the aim of encouraging and to support the boxers to showcase their talent and to take boxing to greater heights. The organizers rewarded the boxers with cash awards in all the bouts that were conducted with the winner receiving Rs.50,000 and the loser Rs. 25,000.  
Dian Gomes, incumbent President of BASL stated that he was satisfied with this new concept which is a good start and this would no doubt be a great encouragement for the boxers.  
“We intend to expand the league and look forward to involving foreign boxers, we have not finalized a date to conduct the next meet but it would most probably be before the end of the year as a lot needs to be looked into, “ he concluded.

48kg – H.M.L.P. Jayawardena (Army) beat D.H. Tennekoon (Back3Fit BC). Bantamweight 54kg – R.M.P. Dharmasena (Army) beat K.V.L. Eranda (Air Force). Featherweight 57kg – P.A.R. Prasanna (Army) beat P.G.E. Madushan (Air Force). Welterweight 67kg – P.S.P.S. Fernando (Army) beat A.M.T.S. Adikari (Navy). Middleweight 78kg – K.G. Pathmasiri (Army) beat W.M.G.K.G. Ariyaratne (Navy).  
Women:
48kg – S.V. Ratnapuli (Hanwella Rajasinghe BC) beat H.K.N.N. Perera (Army). Bantamweight 54kg – L.I.N. Malshani (Air Force) beat R.M.Y.D.B. Menike (Navy). Featherweight 57kg – K.K.I.T. Perera (Air Force) beat G.W.G.C. Tharuka (Police).
