The Sri Lanka netball squad selected for the upcoming 14th Asian Senior Women’s Netball Championship 2026 and currently awaiting approval from the Minister of Sports, includes an injured player, the Daily Mirror has been told.

Parents of players in the national squad say that an immediate inquiry should be conducted into the player’s health condition and fitness before a final decision is made.

The player, who has been selected for the first time, is reported to have suffered a leg injury during the final selection trials. It is reported that despite participating in the selection process with the injury she has not attended any training sessions since then.

Nevertheless, the Netball Selection Committee has included her among the final 12 players.

The Selection Committee has also come under criticism over the decision to include the player in the Asian Championship squad, with allegations that the selection may have been influenced by individuals involved in netball administration.

It is further alleged that the player has concealed the leg injury and has been obtaining leave from training by citing illnesses such as a cold, fever and loose motions, resulting in her absence from training sessions for more than a week.

The matter has sparked concern among parents and stakeholders, who are calling for a transparent review of the player’s fitness and eligibility before the squad receives final approval.
