Pelicans SC Cruise to First Win as Saunders-Negombo Youth Share Spoils in FFSL Champions Leagu

Pelicans Sports Club of Kurunegala recorded an emphatic 4–1 victory over Solid Sports Club of Anuradhapura in the FFSL Champions League Football Tournament 2025–2026, played yesterday at the Racecourse Ground in Colombo.
In the other match played last night, Saunders SC and Negombo Youth SC were involved in a tense encounter that ended in a 2–2 draw. The match was evenly balanced throughout, with the teams going into the halftime break locked at 1–1. Saunders SC were further tested when Mohamed Fawsan was sent off in the second half after receiving a red card.
The FFSL Champions League, organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka, is being contested by 14 teams and continues to deliver competitive action each weekend.
The Pelicans vs Solid clash began as a closely fought contest, with both teams sharing the spoils in the first half. Solid SC captain S. Gnanarupan opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Pelicans responded quickly through Kumara Kavinaash, who equalised in the 14th minute to make it 1–1 at halftime.
Pelicans took full control in the second half, turning the game decisively in their favour with three unanswered goals. Earnest Addo struck twice in the 76th minute and deep into stoppage time (90+3), while Selvam Sutharshan added another in the 82nd minute to seal a convincing win. The result marked Pelicans’ first victory of the tournament.
With action continuing at the Racecourse Ground, the FFSL Champions League remains highly competitive as teams battle for crucial points in the early stages of the season.
