Giannis Antetokounmpo, who led the Milwaukee Bucks to their first NBA championship in 50 years in 2021, has been traded to the Miami Heat in a blockbuster deal that instantly transforms Miami into a legitimate title contender.
In exchange, the Bucks received Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakučionis, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a 2030 first-round pick swap, and a 2033 second-round pick. The Heat also acquired veteran forward Bobby Portis as part of the deal.
The franchise-altering move pairs the two-time NBA MVP with All-Star centre Bam Adebayo, giving Miami one of the league’s most formidable frontcourts. However, while the Heat have assembled a championship-calibre duo, many analysts believe the trade has significantly depleted the team’s depth and future assets, leaving the franchise with limited financial flexibility to strengthen the remainder of its roster.
Not long after the Antetokounmpo trade was announced, another stunning blockbuster sent shockwaves across the league as the Minnesota Timberwolves acquired All-Star guard LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets. In order to pair Ball with superstar Antony Edwards, Minnesota traded Naz Reid along with an unprotected 2033 first-round pick, first-round pick swaps in 2028, 2029 and 2030, and three future second-round picks in 2029, 2032 and 2033. The Hornets also sent Josh Green to Minnesota as part of the deal.
The pairing of LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards immediately gives the Timberwolves one of the NBA’s most exciting and dynamic young backcourts. Ball’s elite playmaking and court vision, combined with Edwards’ explosive scoring ability, have already positioned Minnesota as one of the most dangerous teams in the Western Conference heading into the new season.
