Kalutara FC will take on Jaffna in the curtain-raiser match of the inaugural Lanka Football Cup (LFC) Tournament at the City League Grounds in Colombo tomorrow, commencing at 2.30 p.m.
Negombo FC will confront Kandy FC in the tournament’s second match on the same day with the kick-off at 4.00 p.m. Lanka Sports Group conducts the tournament in association with Football Sri Lanka.
Eight leading football clubs in the country are participating in this tournament, with the champions set to receive Rs. 1m and the runners-up to receive Rs. 500,000.
The participating teams are Colombo FC, Jaffna FC, Kalutara FC, Central FC, Eastern FC, Negombo FC, Galle FC and Kandy FC.
The tournament is conducted to develop the sport in the country at provincial and national levels and to identify new talented players who would represent Sri Lanka.
The schedule (Quarter-finals):
May 4: Kalutara FC vs Jaffna FC at 2.00 p.m. and Negombo FC vs Kandy FC at 4.00 p.m. May 5: Eastern FC Vs Colombo FC at 2.00 p.m. and Central FC vs Galle FC at 4.00 p.m.
(May 11 and 12): Semi-finals.
May 18: Final.
