July.14 (Mirror Sports) – Thaprobane Sports Club marked a historic milestone by hosting its first-ever Women's Awards Ceremony in Hong Kong, celebrating the outstanding achievements of Sri Lankan domestic workers who continue to pursue their passion for cricket while living and working away from their families. The event also celebrated the team's qualification for the Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK) Women's T20 League for the 2026-27 season.
The landmark ceremony recognised the players' commitment, determination, and success after Thaprobane SC secured its place in the Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK) Women's T20 League for the 2026-27 season, marking a significant achievement for both the club and Sri Lankan women's cricket in Hong Kong.
Achieving this milestone in less than a year since Thaprobane Sports Club's official registration in Hong Kong is a proud moment for the Sri Lankan community living there.
The club's management, led by President Harsha Chinthaka, Secretary Mathisha Yapa, Treasurer Clairy Chan, Manager and Mentor Udaya Kumarasinghe, and Head Coach Safwaan Ismail, presented awards to players in recognition of their outstanding performances during the Women's Development League 2025-26 season.
The President's Special Recognition Awards were presented to Anu Thennakoon, Nadeeka Dilhani, and Safwaan Ismail for their exceptional contributions to the club.
In the season awards, Anoja Ann was named Best Batter of the Series, while Fathima Hasna finished second and Nilu Rajapaksha claimed third place.
Dilini Iresha won the Best Bowler of the Series award, ahead of Fathima Hasna in second and Chathu Ekanayake in third.
The Best Performer of the Series award went to captain Anoja Ann, with Dilini Iresha finishing second and Fathima Hasna securing third place.
The memorable evening celebrated not only individual excellence but also the inspiring journey of Sri Lankan women balancing work abroad while continuing to excel in cricket. The ceremony marked another major milestone for Thaprobane Sports Club as it continues to promote and develop Sri Lankan women's cricket in Hong Kong ahead of its debut campaign in the Cricket Hong Kong, China (CHK) Women's T20 League for the 2026-27 season.
