Colombo, July 14 (Daily Mirror) - Minister of Fisheries Chandrasekar has stated that the new alliances formed between political parties in the country will eventually collapse.
He made these remarks while responding to a question about the newly formed alliance between Tamil and Muslim political parties after attending an event in Jaffna today.
He further questioned whether the alliance had been formed to eradicate bribery and corruption, stop fraud, catch criminals, and serve the people, or whether it was instead intended to protect thieves, fraudsters, and those involved in corruption and financial misconduct.
The Minister claimed that many individuals in the alliance had previously been found guilty by the courts and are currently out on bail.
He added that, since those currently on bail may inevitably end up in prison, the alliance appears to be a strategy aimed at toppling or changing the government before that happens.
Minister Chandrasekar also stated that while these parties are forming alliances among themselves, his party is building an alliance with the people. He stressed that such political alliances would not be able to weaken the National People's Power (NPP) government in any way.
