Sri Lanka coasted to an 81-run win over the West Indies in their ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 Cricket World Cup Group ‘A’ encounter played at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday, to record their second successive win of the tournament.
The foundation for their win was laid by Sanjana Kavindi, Dahami Sanethma and skipper Manudi Nanayakkara, who made useful contributions at the early stage of the innings.
Sanjana, who made 39 in 36 balls with six boundaries, gave Sri Lanka a solid start along with Sumudu Nisansala after Manudi had won the toss and opted to bat first.
The pair put on a solid 54 runs in 51 balls and Sanjana followed it up with another fine partnership of 48 runs in 32 balls for the second wicket with Manudi, who made a quick-fire 41 in 31 balls with five boundaries and one six.
Manudi shared another 30-run stand for the fourth wicket with Sanethma who made an unbeaten 31 with three boundaries to help the side end their innings with a formidable score of 166 for five.
The West Indies, in their run chase, suffered an early setback as left-arm spinner Chamodi Praboda ran through the top order batting to have them struggling on 36 for three in the sixth over.
Later, Aseni Thalagune and Limansa Tilekeratne snared three wickets between them to send their opponents reeling to 64 for six and the West Indies were eventually bowled out for a paltry 85 runs.
The two unbeaten teams of Group ‘A’ Sri Lanka and India will clash in their last round robin match on January 23.
