Gateway College Shines at SLS Junior Open Squash Championship

Gateway College delivered a commanding performance at the SLS Junior Open Squash Tournament held at the Air Force Sports Complex in Ratmalana, securing top positions across multiple age categories and further cementing its reputation as a powerhouse in junior squash.

Leading the charge was Vishan Ranatunga, who claimed the Boys Under-19 Championship, showcasing his dominance in the senior division. 

In the Boys Under-15, Manuth Dassanayake

continued his stellar form by clinching the Champion’s title, while Chanumi Thebuwana brought further glory to Gateway by emerging as champion in the Girls’ Under-13 category.

Adding to the schools’ impressive medal tally, Sithumli Mendis delivered a strong performance to secure second place in the Girls’ Under-15 category. 

Taveesha Goonasekara finished 5th in the Girls’ Under-13, demonstrating promise and resilience.

The Boys’ Under-15 division also featured several notable performances with Yolen Withanage – 4th place, Dillon Perukanda – 7th place and Ravith Mendis – 8th place bringing glory to Gateway. 

In the younger age groups, Ranuk Mendis fought hard to finish 5th in the Boys Under-11, while Jehantha Perera took 7th place in the Boys Under-13 category.

Gateway’s consistent success at national tournaments reflects the dedication, skill, and hard work of its athletes and coaching staff. With multiple podium finishes, the school continues to make its mark in the Sri Lankan squash arena.
