There are wonderful characters among the Diyawanna council members. Some of them possess the wonderful forte to hold up truth as falsehood or vice versa, they say.

By the way, there is a Diyawanna member from Uva who very often gets involved in heated arguments.

As of late, apparently in a bid to cut a figure, he had begun interrupting fellow members when addressing the council, saying that they were violating a particular standing order which he would readily cite!

When this member made it a habit of interrupting members on their feet pointing out very often wrongly they are going against some standing order or the other, the senior Diyawanna politicos who happen to know these orders by heart would correct the member pointing out that he was misinterpreting the particular standing order.

However, when the member from Uva had continued the practice of interrupting fellow members to point out to them that they were violating the standing orders, some government politicos had begun to treat it as a joke! Thereafter, whenever, the member from Uva stands up with the book on standing orders in his hand, some mischievous members would call out, “ Is it 91?” raising general laughter!

Realizing that he had become a laughingstock, the member from Uva later stopped the practice of citing the standing orders. Meanwhile, another member from Kelaniya bridge area too has begun citing the standing orders and he too has now become a target for ridicule due to his being found often misquoting these orders, they say.
