Has the Kotikawatta–Mulleriyawa Urban Council (KMUC) garbage lorry disappeared with the Ditwah cyclonic winds?
For nearly one month, the garbage collection lorry has failed to service this area. Even prior to this prolonged lapse, garbage collection was highly irregular, occurring only once a week and without any prior notice of arrival.
The absence of a predictable schedule places an unreasonable burden on residents—particularly housewives—who are compelled to repeatedly step out of their homes to check whether the garbage truck has arrived. This not only results in wasted time but also causes significant inconvenience and distress.
More critically, the prolonged accumulation of household waste poses serious environmental and health hazards, including the risk of disease, pests, and unsanitary living conditions—especially under the current climatic conditions.
The residents of Vivekarama Mawatha urgently call upon the Kotikawatta–Mulleriyawa Urban Council (KMUC), Gothatuwa New Town, which is responsible for waste collection in this area, to act without further delay. Prompt intervention will not only restore basic municipal services but also safeguard public health and dignity.
It is hoped that the newly elected Chairman of KMUC, Mr. Dhanushka Priyadharshana, will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and ensure swift corrective action in the interest of the community.
