President’s Fund supports 370 special needs students with Rs. 100,000 grants



Colombo, July 11 (Daily Mirror) - The President's Fund has launched a financial assistance programme to support university students admitted under the special needs category, providing Rs. 100,000 each to 370 students.

The first phase of the initiative was launched at the "Sarasavi Dirio Abhiman 2026" programme held at Temple Trees today (11), where cheques were presented to 236 students.

The beneficiaries were selected from students admitted to universities under the special needs classification by the University Grants Commission.

The programme aims to assist students with disabilities in pursuing higher education and forms part of the President's Fund's efforts to expand support for vulnerable groups.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Upali Pannilage, MP Sugath Wasantha de Silva and several others attended the event.
