vap Magul festival held in Haliela

The provincial vap Magul festival marking the ploughing of fields for paddy cultivation in the Uva province
during the oncoming Maha season was held on December 14 at the Maddegoda paddy field in Haliela.

The festival was organised with the aid of the Secretary to the Uva province Agricultural Department, Gunadasa Samarasinghe. Farmers ploughed around four acres of a field using buffaloes and two-wheel tractors.

Government authorities and residents of the area came to witness the event.
