Children’s Day turned into a day of heartbreak for one family in Ihala Bomiriya, as a four-year-old boy who had just returned home after attending a children’s day celebrations at his preschool tragically lost his life in an accident.  

The child, identified as Senuka Nilshan Hettiarachchi, had spent the morning taking part in World Children’s Day festivities, receiving gifts and enjoying the company of his friends. But only hours later, while playing at home, he accidentally fell into a well behind his house and drowned.  

Police in Nawagamuwa said the well had been covered with a net, but believe the child may have leaned over to peer inside, losing his balance and falling in.
