Thanthirimale Poson festival from June 8 to June 11

The Poson festival in Thanthirimale is scheduled to commence on June 08 and last till June 11. The Poson festival will be held for the 2333rd year to mark the advent of Buddhism in Sri Lanka.   

Chief Incumbent of Thanthirimale Rajamaha Vihara Ven. Thanthirimale Chandarathana Thera said Lankadeepa Aloka Pooja illumination sponsored by Wijeya Newspapers Ltd., will be held from June 09 to June 11 for the 22nd year.   

Ven. Thera said all arrangements to provide adequate facilities and protection to tens of thousands of devotees attending the festival were being made now.   

“The Poson Full Moon Poya Day programme will include Sil campaigns, Dhamma Desana, Buddha poojas, and Bhakti Gee recitals. The programme will be telecast over the National Rupavahini from early morning. School uniforms will be donated to 500 children by Ven. Singappuruwe Gunarathana Thera. Two Chinese teams will stage Bhakti Gee recitals. Several Danselas to provide free meals and refreshments to the devotees will be organised,” he said. He said the festival would be organised with the help of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Ceylon Electricity Board, the police and the security forces and several government institutions including Manupa Pradeshiya Sabha and civil society organisations.
