Soranathota PS budget defeated for the second time

The budget proposals for 2026 of Soranathota Pradeshiya Sabha were defeated for the second time at yesterday’s meeting.   

The council met yesterday under the chairmanship of Asoka Kirthi Jayalath (NPP). Samagi Jana Balawegaya member N. Gunaseelan, who was addressing the council, fell ill and was admitted to the hospital. However, he was discharged after treatment.   

When the vote was taken, the six NPP members voted for, and the opposition members, including three SJB members, two SLFP members and the two members of the UNP and Sarvajana Balaya voted against defeating the budget by a majority of one vote.   

The two members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna were absent from the meeting. They are believed to have left for Colombo to attend the joint opposition rally in Nugegoda.
