Security should be beefed up when Kandy Perahera begins: Kiriella

Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella yesterday requested for a special security arrangement  for the historic Kandy Perahera as there are reports which suggest there could be some incidents during the event.  

“ A special security situation is essential for the Perahera. It is easy for the terrorists to launch an attack on the Perahera as it moves along a large area and draws a large crowd. I am making this request as I have been informed by the Venerable Mahanayaka Theras that a special security arrangement is needed for the Perahera,” Mr. Kiriella said.  The traditional Kandy Perahera is usually held coinciding with the Full Moon Poya during the month of August.
