The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is set to undergo a major reorganization as discussions continue on forming a unified opposition front, the Daily Mirror reliably learns.
SJB MP Chaminda Wijesiri, who has been a strong advocate for party reform, confirmed that several discussions have already taken place, during which party members were consulted on the proposed restructuring.
“Some meetings were held, and the opinions of party members were sought regarding the reorganization. We are now awaiting the next steps,” MP Wijesiri told the Daily Mirror.
Wijesiri has consistently lobbied for a complete overhaul of the SJB, calling for reforms across all levels of the party’s structure.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing regarding the formation of a broader political alliance. In a significant move, UNP Leader and former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has extended an invitation to SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa and others to attend the upcoming UNP convention, scheduled for September 6 in Colombo.
In a related development, SJB MP Kavinda Jayawardena and former MP Mayantha Dissanayake have submitted a petition to the United Nations office in Colombo, protesting the recent arrest of former President Wickremesinghe.
