Govt to seek interpol notices for wanted ex-ministers, underworld figures

Colombo, June 18 (Daily Mirror) - Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala today said that Blue Notices or Red Notices will be issued in the future to bring back former ministers and underworld figures who have court-issued arrest warrants and are believed to be overseas.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said the Police act on every warrant issued by the courts, regardless of whether it is against former ministers or underworld figures.

He said warrants have already been issued against several former ministers and that the same legal process is being followed in those cases.

"They need to be brought back to this country. For that, we will issue Blue Notices or Red Notices in the future and bring them to Sri Lanka," the Minister said.

Wijepala said that the Police Department is implementing court orders in accordance with the law and that further international cooperation will be sought where necessary to secure the return of suspects.
