A rogue elephant that rushed into a rice mill in Ethungoda in Kottukachchiya in the early hours of last morning had caused much havoc damaging the rice mill and gulping down paddy and rice.
The owner of the rice mill Ajith Malinga said the rogue elephant pulled down the walls of the rice mill and took away a 50 kilo bag of rice after gulping down a large stock of paddy.
He pointed out that the electrical circuit in the rice mill had been broken but the jumbo had not been hurt. He said extensive damage had been caused to the rice mill and other property. He said it was for the second time that the rice mill was damaged by wild elephants
Wildlife Conservation Officers from the Puttalam Elephant Control Unit were expected to carry out an inspection to estimate the loss.
