One member of a gang of six suspects who impersonated themselves as officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), was arrested in connection with a robbery of over Rs.5 million worth of cash and jewellery from a house in Alawathugoda.
The Police said six suspects armed with a weapon had entered the house at Batugoda, Alawathugoda on February 11, claiming that they were CID officers. The suspects had threatened the residents and robbed Rs. 2.92 million in cash and 42 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth Rs. 2.5 million from the house.
A 37-year-old suspect,a resident of Girakaduwa was arrested on Saturday following a complaint lodged with the Alawathugoda Police over the robbery.
The arrested suspect is to be produced in the Kandy Magistrate’s Court.
