Heavy rainfall, thundershowers on the cards for several areas

The Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert forecasting fairly heavy showers exceeding 50 mm, in several areas including the Eastern, Uva, and Northern provinces.  

In addition to these regions, residents in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-Western provinces, as well as in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts, can expect several spells of rain throughout the day. 

Elsewhere on the island, showers or thundershowers are likely at various locations during the evening or night.   

The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate potential damages from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with these thundershowers.
