CID reports facts in court on railway e-ticket scam

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate that an investigation has been launched into a railway e-ticket scam reported in Ella, Kandy, Colombo, and Makumbura MMC.

The CID informed Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali that they have initiated an investigation into an incident where tickets were purchased immediately and resold at a higher price during the railway online seat reservation process. The issuance of railway e-tickets was jointly operated by the Sri Lanka Railway Department and Sri Lanka Mobitel.
The investigating officers also informed the court that this investigation was initiated following a complaint made by the Railway Department to the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department.
