Admit orphaned children into national schools: Minister

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam yesterday instructed its officials to make arrangements to enrol children who are residing in State registered or sponsored orphanages into 
national schools.   

The decision was taken following complaints received by the education ministry regarding the rejection of applications belonging to orphaned children. One such principal, who rejected an application of orphaned child, had stated that admitting an orphaned child into the school will bring disrepute to the school.   

Minister Kariyawasam reiterated that since assuming office in 2015 he had taken several measures to provide quality education to all children.
