Sri Lanka Railways to launch ‘Odyssey Camper’

 The hotel in the train and named as ‘Odyssey Camper’ will be open to the public shortly

A hotel with luxury facilities on two railway compartments has been built at the Ratmalana Main Railway Yard by its workers. General Manager Sri Lanka Railways Dhammikka Jayasundara said that the facility would open to the public in a couple of days.

The hotel in the train is named as ‘Odyssey Camper’. It is complete with all facilities resembling a luxury hotel. It is at present located at Nanu Oya, overlooking the lovely and attractive sight completed with water falls. Jayasundara said that it was an innovative creation of employees in Work Shops 21, 25 and 26 of the Ratmalana Railway Yard.

He said that an old Indian railway compartment, and a locally made compartment have been used to build the hotel. The general manager said that visitors to the hill country could spend a holiday in this hotel with open spaces. It is built in a way to facilitate viewing the picturesque surroundings.  Some of the other facilities are rooms with attached baths and hot water. Breakfast is supplied by Nanu Oya Railway bungalow.

The charges per room per day is set at Rs.9500.

The hotel has been built under the supervision of Railway Superintending Engineer (Projects and Development) G.A.Krishantha and Supervising Manager, Work Shop 26 H.J.R.Fonseka on the instructions of Jayasundara.
