Minor flood situation reported in Kuda Ganga sub-basin

Colombo, June 13 (Daily Mirror) - A minor flood situation has been reported in the Kuda Ganga sub-basin of the Kalu River Basin following significant rainfall in the upper catchment areas, according to authorities.

Based on the prevailing rainfall conditions and water level analyses from river gauging stations operated by the Irrigation Department, flood conditions are currently being observed in the Kuda Ganga sub-basin. However, officials stated that no significant or rapid rise in river water levels is expected over the next few hours, considering the rainfall data received so far and the current weather pattern.

Residents living in low-lying floodplain areas along the Kuda Ganga and Magura Ganga within the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palindanuwara Divisional Secretariat Divisions have been advised to remain vigilant. Motorists travelling through these areas have also been urged to exercise caution.

Meanwhile, disaster management agencies and other relevant authorities have been requested to take necessary precautionary and preparedness measures in response to the developing situation.
