The rare feature of the event will be the presentation of compositions of classical masters including Beethoven (Creation Anthem) and Handel (For unto Us a Child Is Born)

To herald the Nativity season, St.Joseph’s College Maradana has finalised all arrangements to have its annual carol service on December 4 (Sunday) at 6.30 pm at the Rev. Dr. Stanley Abeysekara Auditorium.
To be held under patronage of His Excellency Archbishop Brian Udaigioe, the Apostolic Nuncio to Sri Lanka, the choral presentation will be studded with apt reflections.
The service promises to provide an incomparable journey through classical presentations, chants, traditional carols and rare anthems involving Sinhala, Tamil, English, Latin, German, French, Nigerian and Hebrew languages each requiring its own unique style.

The rare feature of the event will be the presentation of compositions of classical masters including Beethoven (Creation Anthem) and Handel (For unto Us a Child Is Born). The melodious Sinhala and Tamil carols will add the necessary local character to the programme. A special feature will be a Hebrew chant HASHIVENU culled from Prophet Jeramiah’s “ Book of Lamentation” which prayer probably Jesus himself may have sung. The Nigerian carol ‘BABA YETU’ is bound to add an African rhythm.
St. Cecilia’s Choir of St. Joseph’s College- now globally regarded with much respect as a member of the International Pueri Cantores Federation- took the overall responsibility to make the Carol Service a beautiful reality.

Also featuring in the programme are the World Choir Games Champions, ‘Old Joes’- the angelic voices of the Primary School and the veteran teachers’ choral group.
In keeping the spirit of concern for the overwhelming suffering of our people, the theme of the carol service will focus on the baby Jesus who chose to be born in a meagre stable.
Involving over 200 singers, the Josephian Carols comes with a promise of providing an incomparable choral and spiritual experience.
St. Cecilia’s Choir of St. Joseph’s College cordially invites those interested to be present at the occasion.
