Online Safety Bill to be repealed this month

Colombo, June 12 (Daily Mirror) - Parliament is to take up the debate on the Online Safety (Repeal) Bill on June 23 as per the decision made by the party leaders, the office of the Leader of the House said.

The debate is to take place from 11 am to 5.00 pm on the stipulated date.

The Online Safety Act No. 9 was approved in Parliament in February 2024.  This legislation was opposed by many, including civil organizations and some media institutions.  

The House is expected to take up the debate on the National Environment (Amendment) Bill on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. The Opposition focused on this Bill in the House where Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa urged the government to call up a stakeholders’ meeting before getting it approved.

The Order under the Sri Lanka Electricity Act will be taken up for debate  on Friday, June 26, 2026.
