The Law Students’ Association of Sri Lanka (LSASL), is a non-political and non-profit body of law students across the country with a membership of over 450 students. Since its founding in 2009, with the patronage of the eminent Jurist late Professor C.G. Weeramantry and initiated by Mr Randhike Cooray, the founding President, the Association has been committed to the ideals of legal scholarship, social responsibility and fostering fraternity among the aspiring legal professionals of Sri Lanka. We are also known as ALSA Sri Lanka – the national chapter in the Asian Law Students Association that comprises of 17 countries across the region.

LSASL, having undergone numerous changes, trials and tribulations during the decade, has been in operation, was revamped this year to create and proliferate opportunities for law students from all over the nation to hone their leadership skills and better their knowledge.  As such, this year has seen numerous initiatives coming out of LSASL.

The LSASL Internship Programme is one such unique initiative. Being the first of its kind, the programme was structured with the intention of creating equitable opportunities for law students island wide to gain exposure to the work environment and to provide the much needed guidance and direction under professional lawyers and legal practitioners.

The External Affairs Department of LSASL is incredibly fortunate to have numerous professionals to aid us in seeing this initiative come into fruition. The programme is supported by USAID’s Efficient and Effective Justice project.

We extend our gratitude to the Advisors of LSASL, Attorneys-At-Law Mr. Vishwa de Livera Tennekoon and Mrs. Saranee Gunathilaka for their unwavering support and guidance in this venture.

This project was put together this year by Ms. Zeenath Zakir - President of LSASL 2021-2022 with Mr.  Asel Ariyapperuma, the Secretary of the External Affairs Department - the Project Chairperson along with Project Coordinators Ms. Dinithi Wijesinghe and Ms. Sandani Jayasundara who have worked tirelessly for this programme along with departmental members Ms. Merosha Paskaran and Ms. Chamodi Gunasekara overseeing the project operations.
