Plans are afoot to reverse the power tariff hike in order give a relief for low income groups through the revised budget, Chief Government Whip Susil Premajayantha told Parliament yesterday.

Minister Premajayantha who was responding to a question raised by the Opposition Leader said plans are in place to provide some concessions to the needy through the revised budget and focus will be made on power tariff.
“We will be presenting a revised budget to Parliament on August 30, 2022 . Plans are being made to provide a package of concessions to the needy. Therefore we are looking for providing some concession when it comes to power tariffs and focusing on providing a concession to the low income group,” Mr. Premajayantha said.
The Minister reminded that the government is agreeable for a debate on power tariff hike.

Earlier Mr. Premadasa requested the government to re-think about the power tariff hike. “People will begin to feel the hike only when they receive their electricity bills. Therefore we request the government to come up with some relief for the needy,” he said.
